Feeling the love!

I started my day off with a photo shoot in the morning.  That was where the picture of Max and me came from in my previous post.  Here are some more:

This is how my days begin.  I wake up to a beautiful sunrise shining in my eyes, and Max is stiff arming me or pulling my hair.  Who needs an alarm when you have a baby?  I usually put Max to bed singing about how when he wakes up the sun will rise and mommy & daddy will be smiling.  I love that this actually happens, and it forces me to start my day off positively.  You can't promise your little man smiles and not deliver! When I do catch myself starting my day off on the wrong foot I think how grateful I am of waking up to a loving family, in a safe place to live; with the opportunity to do great things.  It almost always turns me in the right direction (though some days can be more challenging than others).  Waking up earlier in the mornings makes me feel much more accomplished at the end of the day.  I don't feel lazy, and I have more time to actually accomplish the goals I set for myself.

"Breakfast of champions" is a phrase often tossed around, often jokingly referring to a piece of cold pizza or a can of beer.  I make it a point to start my day off with as healthy a meal as I can muster.  Today was whole grain oats with banana, cinnamon, and just a little bit of pecan cereal on top for crunch. Some days I make super easy banana cookies.  You mix 2 mashed bananas with 1 cup of oats and bake at 350F for about 10-15 minutes.

What I'm getting at is that I have grown increasingly aware of what I am putting in my body. I've adopted a whole foods, plant based nutrition plan.  I'd really love to ultimately go gluten free, dairy free, and almost all raw.  I look at food labels constantly. It's almost depressing how often I see high fructose corn syrup, bleached wheat, and a slew of other big chemical-esque words that I can barely pronounce.  I like labels like the one on the bag of carrots I snack on... Ingredients: carrots.  Amazing!  I now must go on a small tangent about how peeved on the inside I get when people say to me, "I think it's great that you are being healthy, but I just couldn't give up (insert food item here)." Yes, you can.  If I gave you a can of acid and told you to drink it would you?  What if I gave you a can of acid, I painted it green, and put "Do the dew." on the side?  Despite the massive amount of knowledge we have about the food on our grocery store shelves, people just keep buying it and eating it.  My jaw about dropped when I heard Woody Harrelson in the documentary Ethos spell it out for me... If you don't buy the products, companies will be forced to change them to what you will buy. I'm going to wrap this opinion up, because I hate being grouped in with the typical idea of what being vegan is.  I believe people should consider vegan eating habits to save, well, people. Tangent over.  Onto the rest of my day.

There's my sweet boy again!
Max is sitting on a rag rug I crocheted out of t-shirts and other miscellaneous clothing items that needed re-purposing.  There are two methods to making a rug like this.  I prefer to crochet, but you can also weave a rug similar to this using a hula hoop as a loom.
You can do a color scheme or go the eclectic route.

I attempted to get more done today to stock up on inventory for this craft show I am doing. While I worked on projects in the house, Jeremy went to town out in the barn/workshop making re-purposed wood items.  There will be more posted about his projects in our joint blog (coming soon to a computer near you!), but for now just know that he spent a good chunk of his day out there. I like working from home, spending time with my son.  It's hard to be frustrated or feel bogged down when you have a constant reminder of all that's good sitting right by your side.  Here are some other projects I completed today:

I made a matching barrette holder, photo frame, and trinket box.  Would be great for a little girl's room.

These are some barrettes and hair ties I made also.

I looked at a few other ideas of things I want to take a stab at.  I have a whole board on Pinterest dedicated to things I want to make.  I will stick to only posting completed items on this blog (it will give me incentive to finish more!)  I have some long term goals I'd like to complete.  I'm crocheting my first ever sweater, and I want to try my hand at quilting also.  That brings me back to generous people.  I had a large amount of fabric swatches just given to me by a very nice person.  I'm so overwhelmed with how helpful and generous people are.

I was shocked to see that my last post had 211 page views in one day!  My gratitude cannot be measured. I'm even more jazzed now about this undertaking.  It seems that all signs point to this being my call, purpose, niche, or whatever you'd like to refer to it as.   I certainly hope that I can rise to the occasion.  Besides just posting about my day-to-day and craft projects, I will also be posting some art pieces.  I feel like anyone can be taught how to make something, a craft; but art is saying something with materials. I'm so excited to show you all the creativity that flows through me daily waiting to gush it's way out.  Anyone actually reading and following along, I'd love your feedback.  Are the posts too long? Are there too many pictures (or not enough?) What things would you like to know more about? I promise that future posts may appeal more to males as well.  I haven't gotten into my wish list of things to make that the fellas will dig.  This blog isn't just about rambling on to you about my day and bragging about my family (though it's easy, because they rock), but it's also about spreading happiness and helping others enrich their own lives.  I'd be happy to hear your likes/dislikes or just to talk to you in general :-).  I'm going to wrap this one up. More tomorrow!
